BIS Launches New FMCS Online Portal for Foreign Manufacturers

June 2026The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced a new digital platform for the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), marking a significant step in the modernization of India’s conformity assessment procedures. The new FMCS portal, available through the Manak Online system, is designed to streamline the BIS certification process for overseas manufacturers seeking access to the Indian market.
The transition reflects BIS’s broader efforts to digitize regulatory services, improve efficiency, and reduce administrative burdens associated with certification applications. Under the new framework, manufacturers can manage the entire application process electronically, from document submission to payment tracking and status monitoring. Products subject to BIS certification usually require BIS certification in order to be approved for import and sale in India.
Digitalization of the FMCS Certification Process
The newly launched portal enables foreign manufacturers to submit FMCS applications online through the Manak Online platform. Key functions include the electronic upload of technical documents and test reports, digital submission of payment information, and real-time tracking of application progress.
To further improve usability, the system incorporates features such as draft-saving capabilities and an application preview function before final submission. These enhancements are intended to help applicants verify the completeness and accuracy of their submissions before filing.
BIS has also announced a clear transition schedule for implementation. Offline or hard-copy FMCS applications will continue to be accepted only until 31 May 2026. Beginning 1 June 2026, all FMCS applications must be submitted exclusively through the online portal, making digital filing mandatory for foreign manufacturers applying for BIS certification.
