The most important steps of the TEC certification process are registration, product testing, and marking. However, there are important points to consider for each of the steps:
Here is a brief video about the TEC accreditation, presented by Julian Busch, director of

A detailed list can be found on our TEC mandatory products page. In principle, only complete systems are TEC-certified; components are not considered. Pure telephone systems are covered by the “Simplified Certification Scheme”, for which no test reports have to be submitted, but instead a simple so-called “Self-Declaration of Conformity”. Products that have network capability or are otherwise used in networks are covered by the General Certification Scheme, which requires up-to-date test reports.
While the products covered by the TEC certification scheme must meet the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC / EMI) requirements, the need for security testing is still under consideration.
If the product is to be imported for research or exhibition purposes, an appropriate exemption certificate can be applied for. However, this regulation requires that the product will be in India for just a limited period of time, the corresponding deadline in the certificate must be met.
Products that are imported for testing purposes are of course also exempted.
The manufacturer receives both a unique factory ID and a certificate, the number of which must also be marked on the product. There is a separate certificate for each product, but it is also possible to have up to 10 variants of a product on one certificate. In this case only the main model needs to be checked.
The TEC certification will probably be valid for five years.
Similar to BIS certification, an Authorized Indian Representative must be appointed in India for the registration process. This local representative is the main contact for the authority and must also be available at all times to answer any questions. This can be a subsidiary of the manufacturer, but the manufacturer can also contractually authorise a local representative such as an importer.
