iCAT (English)

3. May 2023

What does iCAT stand for?

iCat stands for International Centre for Automotive Technology and is one of the leading Indian authorities that can perform AIS certification. Its other main tasks include all kinds of tests on automotive components, which are also necessary for BIS certification of automotive components. The iCat is authorized to do this by the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP for short), which is part of the Indian government.

What does iCAT do?

iCAT has accreditation for all approvals of vehicles and their components under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) – Rule No. 126 as well as permission from the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) for tests on wheels, tires and glass for BIS certification. In addition, iCAT also has the authorization of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for testing and approval of generators, as well as various accreditations from NABL (according to ISO 17025:2005), the English VCA, the CAFE Sector Secretariat of the Ministry of Roads and Transport. Furthermore, the test institute, established in 2006, has all the conditions for testing motors, LEDs, UPS, IT products, AV products, household appliances, etc. It is ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and 45001 certified.
